LOS ANGELES -- A multi-agency task force launched a major operation today targeting gang members indicted for murders, drug trafficking, carjackings, home invasion robberies and witness intimation, police said.
The operation centered in northeast Los Angeles and targeting the Avenues Street gang, especially its Drew Street clique, is the culmination of a 10-month-long investigation, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. It began at 4 a.m.
Taking part in the operation were the Los Angeles and Glendale police departments, the FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the U.S. Justice Department and the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles, according to an LAPD statement.
A news conference was scheduled at the Federal Building in downtown Los Angeles at noon to discuss the results of the pre-dawn operation.
